Beautiful Baby Belly

Today, Total Beauty asks the questions Do Stretch Mark Creams Really Work? and it got me to thinking about Mustela Double Action Stretch Marks cream, which was a Can't Live Without product during my pregnancy. Unfortunately, I am prone to stretch marks, so I figured I was destined to get the stretch marks on my tummy that friends complained of. But I had read about this Mustela cream, and found it at Sephora, and thought why not give it a try? Good thing I did, because I did not get one stretch mark on my belly. Not one. Zip. Zero. Nada. I applied it everyday, and I truly believe it helped me. I mean, I have stretch marks on my thighs and hips, and they're not pretty - how could my stomach possibly be immune to them, if not for this cream? Don't know how it works on recent stretch marks, but it worked on preventing them, and I'd rather prevent than have to correct!

Ohmigosh!! So I open my front door, and to my complete surprise, a lovely back and white Sephora box is just sitting there outside, like a mirage in the desert. But, I say to myself, I haven't placed a Sephora order, what could this be? I look at the label, and lo and behold, it is addressed to my husband! Now, before you jump to any crazy conclusions - ha ha - my birthday is coming up, and my wonderful hubby got me something from Sephora!! Does he know me well, or what? Well, I guess that will be determined when I get to open the box, which, unfortunately will not be until May 20th...blurg! (as Liz Lemon on 30 Rock would exclaim) - torture to have to wait sooooooo long to find out what is in the Sephora box!!! I hope it is the new Sephora book. I want to order it right now, but now that I have this mystery Sephora box, I don't want to jinx my self and end up with two copies. He did say he got free shipping, so that means he at least spent $50 (Sephora has been running a free shipping offer with $50 purchase, but they always ship free with a $75 purchase) so there has to be something else in there (and maybe a few free samples thrown in? Not sure if they come with the $50 free shipping or just the $75). I'm sure y'all are very curious as to what's in the box, and I will be sure to let you know... in 22 loooong days!

Kate Somerville - Free Shipping

Celeb fave Kate Somerville is offering Free Shipping now until April 30th on all orders. Just enter promo code MOMSDAY -yup, as in Mother's Day, need to get mom an awesome gift. Maybe she would like some Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Serum? It's an anti-aging serum for normal to dry skin (oily skin should take a pass - as much as I wanted to love it, it clogged my pores) that locks in moisture to keep skin hydrated and give it that dewy glow.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil

So which is it - a gel or body oil? Well, it is both, and I like it! I found this today when I stopped at Wal-Mart to find some replacement cushions for my patio furniture, and immediately had to have it (sadly, I did not get any cushions). It says "new" on the bottle, but looks like maybe it came out some time last year, based on customer reviews at Amazon, however, it's new to me! I thought it had to be brand new because it just seems like summer-in-a-bottle. It has that rich, earthy smell of cocoa butter products, but I also think I caught a very slight whiff of a pretty floral note, like lilacs, which I love, and at the same time, it smells like yummy buttercream frosting! The key ingredients include Brazilian Nut Oil (supposed to be a great moisture barrier, keeping your skin hydrated, and possesses antioxidant properties) and Sweet Almond Oil (gives your skin a pretty glow and restores moisture). To be honest, I don't see cocoa butter listed in the ingredients anywhere! Interesting... Now, because of these two oils, along with mineral oil, it is, a little, shall we say, oily? And one Amazon review said that it could stain clothes, so be careful when applying. I am hoping that since it is a gel it will be less messy the other body oils, because while I like my Neutrogena Sesame Body Oil very much, sometimes the oil comes out too fast from the bottle and ends up dribbling onto the shower floor, wasting some of it. I am envisioning using it after shaving my legs, and having glossy bare skin to go with the pretty little sundresses I will be wearing in the hot weather, so I'm not minding the oiliness too much. It has soaked in since I've applied it, however, it wasn't instantaneous, but I like a sheen on my legs in the summer. Finally, the gel/oil also looks like a summer product to me because of the tiny little bubbles suspended in the gel - kinda looks like ginger ale! Or it could be that it reminds my of effervescent bubbles in a refreshing summer cocktail that I will be drinking out on my patio. That is, as soon as I find some darn cushions!!

Cargo PlantLove: For Earth Day... and Beyond

You probably already know about Cargo's PlantLove lipstick. But in honor of Earth Day, I wanted to spotlight a cosmetic that is eco-friendly, and the PlantLove lipstick certainly fits that bill. First, the tube is made entirely out of corn - ok, give it up for that innovative move. Second, the box is made from paper embedded with wildflower seeds. Yup, you read that right. You plant the lipstick box in the ground, and you will get beautiful wildflowers! Love it!! Oh, and not unimportantly, the colors are gorgeous, too. I swear I spent an hour (or more) in Sephora (ok, that's not too hard to do) and I couldn't decide which color to buy. They were all so great. I kept browsing and then would come back to the PlantLove display to see if somehow a decision had been made for me, because as much as I wanted to, I just couldn't buy two lipsticks that day. Also, since some of the lipsticks are designed by celebrities, I had to factor that into my decision. I mean, I just couldn't bring myself to buy a lipstick by Maria Menounos - pretty, pretty girl but ever catch her on the Today Show? Ugh - like fingernails on a chalkboard. Anyway - Mariska Hargitay's color ended up the fave (Maria's shade wasn't "me" anyway).

Buying makeup and leaving a smaller carbon footprint - it's a beautiful thing! Happy Earth Day.

Intervention Wrap-Up

Ok - this is a little late, since I finished the Olay Regenerist 14-day intervention kit almost, well, 14 days ago ago, but hey, I'm a busy mom, and that's all I'll say about that! Well, I can't say my skin was transformed - the fact that Olay states in its advertising that this product does not rival surgical procedures is certainly correct, if not an understatement. I do think I had a minor improvement - my pores on my cheeks seemed slightly smaller. The product does say it plumps up the skin, so maybe that's why my cheeks/pores looked a little better. My skin tone looked a little more even, but to be honest, I can't fully say if that was because of the Olay or the new Garniere Nutritioniste moisturizer with SPF 28(rock on) I'm trying. Yes, I committed a skin care sin and started two new products at the same time. Ooops.

Overall, the Olay Intervention kit did not give me dramatic results in any way, and I wouldn't say by any means that my skin was transformed, but I do think I at least saw that it did something, which is more than I can say for a lot of other skin care products I've purchased over the years. I think maybe if you have pretty decent skin to begin with (I don't), maybe you will see greater improvement. That said, I can't say I sing its praises, but I don't give it a big thumbs down, either.

Can't Live Without Featured Product!!!

It hit me that this product is definitely one of my Can't Live Withouts when I finished a bottle of it, and though I was sad it was empty, I was comforted by the fact that I had two full bottles already purchased and safely stashed in my bursting product closet (a/k/a the linen closet)! Bliss's Super Slough Scrub is a must-have for the shower. There are so many things to like about it. First, the fresh scent hits you. It's almost a masculine scent - not in a leathery, cigar type way - just fresh, almost beachy, not perfumey, not floral (I don't mind floral, this just isn't floral) and the scent doesn't interfere with your perfume later. Second, it is not too harsh as a scrub. Some can tear you up! This does the job but without being scratchy. Third, it's not greasy, doesn't leave an oily residue behind. Fourth, for me, most importantly, this helps me get a really smooth shave on my legs. Scrub up before you shave (rinse the scrub off before you shave), and presto, nice smooth legs. Follow with some Neutrogena Body Oil (light sesame formula) and you're ready for that short skirt (not too short, ladies!!).
